How to Activate Render Cache in DaVinci Resolve for iPad
By default, render cache is set to “None” in DaVinci Resolve for iPad. That means nothing gets cached and transitions or effects that need more processing power might lag during preview. To change that, go to your Settings, then Project Settings, and under General Options you will find the Render Cache option.

You can set it to “User” or “Smart”. Smart is a good option because DaVinci Resolve will automatically decide what needs to be cached. Hit Save and you are ready to go.
What Does the Render Cache Activity Look Like in the Cut Page?

Once you activate render cache and go back to the Cut Page, you will see a red line above your clips in the timeline. This red line means DaVinci Resolve is currently rendering and caching in the background. In the past, you could only see this in the Edit Page. Now it also shows up in the Cut Page.
Red Line vs Blue Line in the Timeline
Red means DaVinci Resolve is still rendering the cache file. When the line turns blue, the caching process is done. Now your preview will play back instantly without any lag. This is especially helpful if you have an older iPad like an M1 and you want smooth preview playback.
Can You Continue Editing While Caching?
Yes. The best part about render caching is that you can continue editing while it works in the background. You don’t have to sit and wait. Just keep editing, and DaVinci Resolve will cache everything in the background. Keep in mind that every time you make a change, like swapping a transition, it has to re-cache that part again. But it happens automatically.
