How To SPEED UP multiple clips & transitions all at once! (DaVinci Resolve iPad)

In this article today i will show you how you can speed up multiple clips that have transitions and even custom transitions applied. If you don’t know what custom transitions are, read this article here first. What i show today is an absolute game changer. This will make you so much faster! Enjoy.

Why do we want to change the speed all at the same time?

Let’s say you have a part in your timeline with clips and added transitions, even custom transitions, but after you are done you realise you want to speed up the entire part. With all the transitions and clips.

If you change the speed clip by clip and transition by transition, thats alot of changes and think about, what if after you changed all the speed, you see that you still need like a second faster or slower…. This method is a pain in the ass… so is there not a way to speed all of this with just one step? Yes there is…

1. Create a Compound Clip

Go to the EDIT PAGE and select all clips and transitions and right click to choose “New Compound Clip”.

Give the new compound clip a name.

After the Compound Clip is created you will see one large clip in your timeline instead of all the other clips that where before.

DaVinci Resolve shows you that this is a compound clip with the little icon in the left corner.

Even in your Media Bin you will see there is a new clip with the Compound Clip Symbol.

2. Change the Clip Speed of the Compound Clip

To change the speed you simply select the compound clip and right click and choose “Change Clip Speed…”.

Btw. To change the clips speed and work with compound clips, that even works in the CUT PAGE. At the moment you can not create compound clips from the CUT PAGE. That’s why we had to create the Compound Clip from the EDIT PAGE.

Bonus: How to change the Content of a Compound Clip?

To change the content inside the compound clip select the compound clip and in the EDIT PAGE right click and choose: “Open in Timeline”.

Now the Compound Clip Content is visible in the Timeline. You can see that you are in a timeline on the bottom left of DaVinci Resolve. In my example it shows me “Timeline 1 > Intro” Because my Compound clip is called Intro and sits in Timeline 1. To go back to my Timeline simply double click on the Timeline 1 text. Or open the Timeline 1 from the Media Pool.
Now the Compound Clip Content is visible in the Timeline. You can see that you are in a timeline on the bottom left of DaVinci Resolve. In my example it shows me “Timeline 1 > Intro” Because my Compound clip is called Intro and sits in Timeline 1. To go back to my Timeline simply double click on the Timeline 1 text. Or open the Timeline 1 from the Media Pool.
