Everything You Need To Know: Using Apple Pencil in DaVinci Resolve iPad

In this article i will show you everything you need to know about how you can interact with the Apple Pencil in DaVinci Resolve for the iPad. How to do a Right Click and how to use it effectively. I also encourage you to watch the Video Tutorial i made for this topic. Enjoy.

1. Basic Interactions: Drag & Drop and Navigation with the Apple Pencil in DaVinci Resolve for iPad

Grab something like a Video and hold it and Drag & Drop it to your Timeline.

You can Scrub through your timeline by swiping left and right on the timeline with your Apple Pencil.

2. How to Do a Right Click in DaVinci Resolve for iPad?

In DaVinci Resolve you can also do a right click. Just longer press with the Apple Pencil, this will do a right click. For example, if i right click on the clips in the Media Pool i will get a new window.

Right Click (Longer Press) on the Playhead will open this little icon window where you can make a cut or select everything to the right or left from the current playhead position.

You can also do a right click in the empty area of the Media Pool to get a different Pop Up Window.

3. How to Interact in the Inspector and Transform Settings with the Apple Pencil

When you select a Clip and open the Inspector you can also swipe over the Numbers to the left or right to change the values.

When you activate the Transform Settings in the Viewer (the little icon under the Viewer) then you will get the Transform Handles in your Viewer. You can grab the Points to change the Position, Zoom and even Rotation. This interaction is one of the major benefits of using the iPad Version over the desktop Version.

4. Interacting with Nodes in the COLOR PAGE with the Apple Pencil

All what we talked about also works in the Color Page. In Addition you can also create the Lines in between Nodes.

Bonus: Create Fast Copies using a Keyboard and the Apple Pencil

When you also use a Keyboard (I use the Magic Keyboard) then you can hold down the “Option Key” while you drag one clip in the Timeline to another Track, this will create a duplicate of that original Clip.
