Checkerboard? Alpha Backgrounds DaVinci Resolve iPad

In this article/video i will show you how to change the viewer background in DaVinci Resolve for iPad to a checkerboard or gray background. This is useful when you want to see if your footage has transparent areas or if the black bars around your clips are actually transparent.

Why Would You Need a Checkerboard Background in the Viewer?

Let’s say you recorded a video on your iPad but your timeline resolution is set to 16×9. You will see black bars around your footage. But is that actually a black background or is it transparent? By default you can not tell because the viewer background is black.

How to Change the Viewer Background in DaVinci Resolve iPad

To change the viewer background go to your Timeline Settings and look for the “View a Background” option. You can now change this from Black to Checkerboard. Once you do that you will see the checkerboard pattern in all transparent areas of your viewer. This works the same way as in the Fusion Page where transparent areas are also shown with a checkerboard pattern.

You also have the option to set the background to Gray if you prefer that over the checkerboard pattern.
