How To Use Ripple Delete in DaVinci Resolve iPad

In this article today i will show you the difference between the regular “delete” and the “ripple delete” function in DaVinci Resolve for the iPad. And i will also show you my two most used Keyboard Shortcuts that will significantly increase your editing speed.

How to use the DEL Key on a Mac or iPad Keyboard?

DaVinci Resolve on a Windows has two delete Keyboard Buttons.

When i showed this my dad on his Windows Computer, we noticed that DaVinci Resolve for Windows has the “Backspace” Keyboard-Shortcut for “Delete Selected” and the “Del” Keyboard Shortcut for “Ripple Delete”. But if you are using a Mac or an iPad, we only have the Backspace. So how can we do the Del on a Mac and iPad Keyboard?

Answer: Use the Shortcut “Shift + Backspace” to do the DEL operation.

How does the regular Delete in DVR work?

When you use the “Delete Selected” (Backspace Keyboard Shotcut) - this will delete the selected clip.
When you use the Delete Selected (Backspace Keyboard Shotcut) – this will delete the selected clip.
And leaves a gap where the clips was.

How does the Ripple Delete work in DVR?

But when we do the same with the “Ripple’Delete” (Del Keyboard Shortcut on Windows and “Shift + Backspace” on Mac and iPad) - The selected clip and the gap will be closed and the rest of the timeline will be pulled towards the beginning.

How to use Ripple Delete Forward and Backward in DaVinci Resolve?

The most used Shortcuts for me are: “Q” (Ripple Start to Playhead) and the “W” (Ripple End to Playhead).

If i want to cut a clip where the Playhead is and delete everything to the left till the next cut and close the gap. Then i use the Ripple Start to Playhead function (Q).

This will also close the gap and bring the rest of the timeline to the next cut section. All of these steps with just on shortcut.

If i want to do the same but to the right side of the Playhead. Cut through my clips and delete everything to the right until the next cut on the timeline, i can use the “Ripple End to Playhead” (W).

Again this will also close the gap and would bring everything that is to the right on timeline to the playhead position. In my example there was no more clips left on the timeline.

How to add the Shortcuts for Ripple Start To Playhead and Ripple End To Playhead?

To add the Shortcuts Q and W you have to open the Shortcuts Menu (Option + Command + K) and give the Functions under Ripple: “End to Playhead” and “Start to Playhead” the shortcuts W and Q.
