A common way to Color Grading your Footage is a so called S-Curve Adjustment. It’s used in Photo Editing Software like Lightroom or Photoshop but you can also do this with DaVinci Resolve for the iPad. But this is not the catch. In this article i show you how a pro is using the Curves Tool of DaVinci Resolve for the iPad. Even if you know how to create a S-Curve you probably do not know the hidden tricks.

What is an S-Curve and how can you create one in DaVinci Resolve for the iPad?

In the Color Page go to the Curves Tab and click the three dots and select “Editable Splines”.

Normally you would click on the Curve to create Points and than change the Position until you get a S-Curve to increase Saturation and Contrast. But with the Editable Splines activated you only have to click the dot on the end. Now you can change the curve with the direction Point.

Repeat that process for the second point as well. Click on the dot. And change the curve direction until you get the S-Curve. This time its a very smooth S-Curve.

The Problem with this method: While you increase the Contrast you also increase the Saturation. But what if we don’t want to increase the Saturation. Just the Contrast?

How to create a S-Curve for the Contrast only?

This is where the isolated Colours and the Luminance come into play. Click on “Y” for Luminance.
