[Video] HELP: iPad Pro Crashes During Export! [What to do?]
Step 1: Sometimes we have to wait for an Update
For example, when the M4 iPad was released it could be that some issues exist, that Blackmagic Design (the company that developed DaVinci Resolve) first had to address in a future update. Lucky i did not hear of these issues, that’s why i think that not all M4 iPad do crash. This is good news, because that means it is possible that you can do something about the carash.
Step 2: Restart your iPad and DaVinci Resolve
It sounds so simple, but you would not believe how many times this could fix the issue you have. This is why when i start pin pointing the errors and issues the first thing what i do is simply restart the iPad and DaVinci Resolve.
Step 3: Make sure you a running the latest updates
A common issue could be that you don’t run the latest iPadOS and DaVinci Resolve Version. Make sure that you run the latest Software update for both.
Step 4: Test if your codecs of the videos you use are causing the issues
Sometimes when you have a long timeline it could be that there is something in the timeline that causes DaVinci Resolve to crash. It could be an effect, a transition or even the codec of a video where the iPad Version has issues.
In order to pinpoint and to make sure that your codecs really do work i go and create a new test project. Now only place one clip of the video with the codec that could have corrupted the timeline. For example, in the YouTube comment i got regarding the issues crash on a M4 iPad he wrote that he is using the Osmo Pocket. Maybe the codec of the Osmo Pocket is causing the problems.
So in that new Project i make sure that DaVinci can render the video. If even there you get a crash, that means you have to convert the video into another codec. Simply search for video converters and before you even use DaVinci Resolve convert the video in a codec and format where DaVinci has no issues.
Step 5: Create a new Project and copy & paste everything
If the video codec is supported and DaVinci actually can render them i would go back create a new Project and copy the entire timeline into the new project and see if it now works. Sometimes just doing that, this solve the crash issues in the past.
Step 6: Use In and Out points to see which part causes the issue
Let’s say it still does not work. That means we have to find the part in the timeline that is causing the crash. You can use the In (i) and Out (o) point on the timeline to mark a part of the timeline and only render this part. That way you will see which parts still have the issue and which ones not. The part that has the issue could be a transition, and effect. Try to disable the effect and see when the video is rendering (Still using the In and Out points, so that the render process doesn’t take to long.
Step 7: Replace the Transitions or Effects
What i had in the past, that some Effects or Transitions i simply had to delete and place again. Then it worked.
Elimination Process
The most important from this video and article was that you understand how i go about, if i encounter an error like render crash and the steps i do, to pinpoint to the causing issue. Because there always has to be a reason why the render crashes. If you know a better solution or did find out something else, please let us all know in the comments.
