In this article we will do an advanced deep dive into how to use Markers in DaVinci Resolve for the iPad. When you want to become a faster Video editor, then Organisation is key. This is where Markers come into play. These little helpers have multiple purposes and have 3 major different ways on how to use them. You can use Markers on the Timeline, Clips and even with Source Material. Btw. Everything you learn today, you can also use completely on the Desktop Version of DaVinci Resolve. And all of that is available in the FREE Version of DaVinci Resolve. Let’s start.

1. How To use Markers on the Timeline (Cut Page)

a) How to Add Markers (simple way)

To add a Marker on the Cut Page just place your playhead on the Timeline where you want the Marker to be and click the Marker icon on the left.

One way you could use markers: Every time your Team or yourself should add a Transition Effect you could use a specific color associated with Transitions. The same logic could apply for Color Changes, Animations all things that have to be communicated through your Team.

Every Marker also has a Notes fields to write important information about the current Marker.

b) A faster Way to Add Markers and Notes

You can also create a Marker using the “Set Color and Add Marker” - This will open the Marker Text Window immediately.

c) How do Timeline Markers behave?

If you rearrange your clips, the Markers will stay on the Timeline position.

d) How To Add Markers with Shortcuts

You can also use the Shortcut “M” to add a Marker to your Timeline.

2. How To use Markers on Timeline (Edit Page)

On the Edit Page you can Add Markers to your Timeline with the Marker Icon. Additionally you can change the color before adding the Marker.

3. How To use Markers on Clips in Timeline (Edit Page)

However if you first select a clip and then add a Marker, that Marker will be attached to the Clip.

You can still open the Marker Text Window. Change Color and add notes.

4. How To use Markers on Source Media (Edit Page)

Select a Source Media and preview it in the Viewer. When you change the Preview Position and hit “M” on your Keyboard, that will create a Marker on the Source Material.

You can also add a Marker to the Source Media by right click and “Add Marker”. This way you can change the color before placing the Marker.

5. How to Delete Markers in DaVinci Resolve for iPad

To remove Markers from Clips, select the Clips you want the Markers to be gone and click the Marker Icon. Om the Top click on “Clear All”.

To remove the Markers on the Timeline, select the one you want to remove or select nothing at all and go to “Clear All” in the Drop Down Window of the Marker Icon. This way all the Markers attached to your Timeline will be deleted.
