How to change FCP iPad Keyboard Layout?

If you got the FCP iPad Keyboard Cover from Editors Keys but your iPad Magic Keyboard has a different Layout, in this article i will show you how you can change that to match the Cover Layout. For example i use the German QWERTZ Keyboard Layout on my Magic Keyboard. But the FCP iPad Cover uses the International English Layout QWERTY.

That means all the symbols and some letters are on a different position then on my Magic Keyboard. But the cool thing is, we can simply add an additional Keyboard Layout to our iPad. And with the 🌐 icon on your Keyboard you can instantly switch between languages and keyboard layouts anytime.

For the FCP iPad Cover i’m using the Cover from Editors Keys with the UK Layout (QWERTY). This Cover exists for the 11 inch and the 12.9 inch Apple Magic Keyboard.

How to add an additional Keyboard Layout to iPadOS?

Go to the iPad Settings under General and Keyboard you will see “Keyboards” and Hardware Keyboards”. We need to add and change a Layout to both of these.

Step 1: Add new language Keyboard to the Keyboard Settings

Under the first “Keyboards” click on “Add New Keyboard… Under the first “Keyboards” click on “Add New Keyboard…"
Under the first “Keyboards” click on “Add New Keyboard…”
Search and select the “English (UK)” Keyboard.

After that in your Keyboard list you will see that you have the English (UK) aswell.

But when we go to a text editor (notes) and change the language with the globe icon 🌐 to the new added English (UK) you will see that the hardware keyboard has not yet changed.

Step 2: How to add a hardware keyboard Layout to the iPadOS

Open the “Hardware Keyboard” settings.
Open the “Hardware Keyboard” settings.
Click on the English (UK) Layout to open the list with hardware keyboards connected with this Layout. In my case because i use a german magic keyboard, this setting was set to “German”.

How to switch between multiple hardware keyboard layouts with the globe 🌐 icon?

When ever i want to write with the german layout i simply use the 🌐 icon to switch to the german layout.

When ever i want to use the Cover Layout like in DVR or even if i want to write in with the English Layout i switch the language with the 🌐 icon to the English (UK) layout.
